18th Annual Boone County Battle of the BBQ
The Battle of the BBQ is the Boone County Cancer Society’s annual fundraiser. All the proceeds that are made at this event go directly back into helping cancer patients in Boone County. The BBQ consists of teams who cook a lot of delicious BBQ then once 5pm rolls around then it is open to the public to taste each teams creation.
Once you get to the event, there are many other attractions. There is a 50/50 raffle, a golfcart raffle, lots of other goodies to get from different booths, and tons of good food. There is always live music and then awards follow at the end, where we announce the winner of each BBQ category, best fundraiser, best decorated, 50/50 raffle winner, and golfcart raffle winner.
None of this would be possible if we didn’t have so many amazing community sponsors who continue to support our mission and make this event possible. The community events continue to show how supportive our community is to Boone County Cancer Society. We highly encourage everyone to come out on August 9th to enjoy all of these fun things.

Thank you for participating in the 18th Annual Battle of the BBQ on August 9th, 2025. Last year’s event raised $102,000 to benefit Boone County cancer patients and their families. With your help, we hope to exceed that number in 2025.
A committee member will be at the park by the bandstand shelter at 9 a.m. the morning of the event. They will check you in, show you your location, and then you are free to set up your tents at that time. Please allow yourself plenty of time to cook and set up. We will begin serving at 5 p.m. SHARP!
You will need to bring:
- Grill, 20 lb. pork loin PER category (sweet, spicy, or rub
- Small signs to identify your category
- Pop-up tent. Your space will be 12×12 feet
- Chairs for your team
- Platter, knives, and tongs to serve your samples
- Decorations for your tent
- T-shirts or aprons to identify your team
- Container for your “People’s Choice Award” donations (monetary gifts)
- Soufflé cups** to serve samples to public

Although this is to raise money for the Boone County Cancer Society, we do have trophies for the winners in the following categories:
- Best Decorated Area
- “Best Fundraising” (You can begin collecting money prior to the BBQ)
There will also be a live DJ and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the day before the event starts!
